You are goal-minded in high school and know what you want to do with the rest of your life and your career. James Madison High School can help students like you jumpstart your professional journey by giving you access to real-world training to make your career goals a reality with a Career Pathways track program.

What are the benefits of a Career Pathway track?

The main benefit of taking a Career Pathway track with JMHS is that it can help you train for job skills before you even finish high school, while answering a lot of questions about career options and opportunities. With classes that are completely online, you can select from in-demand fields with no additional credit-hours needed. As you complete your standard high school diploma, you’ll substitute traditional elective classes for introductory courses in your chosen career field. In your career electives, you can learn the basics of what knowledge and skills are required for that job, all at your own pace and on your own schedule. When you graduate, you’ll not only receive your high school diploma, but also a Career Pathways Certificate to verify your experience to potential future employers or higher education programs.

What kind of student would take a Career Pathway track?

You might not know what kind of a job you want, or it's possible you know exactly what you want to do. Either way, our career pathways track is designed for a variety of students and their individual learning needs. It’s a great tool to further your goals if you are confident in what job you’d like to pursue, but it’s also helpful for those who think they might know but aren’t really sure. The classes can give students insight into what it will take to be successful in a particular profession, as well as whether or not it is a subject that truly interests them. A Career Pathway track can help you decide if it’s something you’d like to continue learning or if exploring a different subject is a better option.

What Career Pathways courses are available?

JMHS offers classes in a few categories to give you a sample of careers. There are options in the skilled trades, childcare, event planning, and healthcare. For instance, if you are good with children and enjoy babysitting, the Childcare career pathway track may be of interest to you. You can learn about child behavior, curriculum planning, and team teaching. Or, perhaps, you have an interest in healthcare. In the Medical Office Assisting program, coursework covers medical terminology and basics of procedures. A Carpentry career pathway where you’ll study essential tools and construction procedures may be well-suited for a student who excels in building and repairing things.

Kickstart your career with JMHS

If you’re ready to take the first steps on your professional journey, James Madison High School can help get you started. In addition to being online and self-paced, each course is nationally accredited and taught by state-certified teachers, with academic advisors available to help you through your high school journey.
