Taking High School Courses Online? Avoid These Homework Excuses!

As a kid, the last thing you wanted to do all day after being in school was to come home and do homework. You wanted to play outside, watch television or beat your friends in the latest version of Mario. As you get older, completing homework still isn’t the most fun task, and it’s possible you can think of a hundred other things you would rather be doing, or more importantly, things you need to be doing.

Whatever the reason, it’s popular for students to think of elaborate excuses to use when their teacher asks why their homework isn’t completed. When you’re taking high school courses online, however, many of those traditional excuses won’t work.

• My dog ate my homework: There must be a lot of dogs with intestinal problems running around given how many canines have eaten homework through the years. No matter how badly your dog misbehaves, there is no way he could turn your homework into lunch when your schoolwork is done online. While paper may be easily ripped up by sharp teeth, a computer keyboard is far more sturdy. Sorry students, but your teacher won’t ‘stomach’ this one.
• I lost my homework: It’s understandable how traditional homework assignments can get lost while transporting an array of books, papers and sundry items from class to class, class to locker, locker to backpack and to home. One of the joys of completing high school courses online is your schooling is secure within your laptop or home computer, wherever you are, which means zero chance of misplacing that work.
• I was absent when the homework was assigned: In traditional school, if you miss a little you miss a lot. One day out of school means you are out of the loop and unprepared for a test, quiz or even homework. In online high school, however, you study at your own pace. If you’re sick, have a religious holiday or if your car breaks down, don’t worry! Your class isn’t going to move on without you.
• I was too busy with other things to do homework: Remember how you had to rush home after school to make it to a doctor’s appointment, be seated at a family dinner or get ready for a soccer game – and perhaps all three in one night before bedtime? Well, with online school you can fit your education around your other obligations. You can study before and after regularly scheduled activities so it doesn’t interfere with your life.
• I left my homework at home/school: Forgetting homework used to be a convenient excuse – but not anymore! When your homework can be found on any computer, tablet or phone with Internet access, you can’t forget it anywhere. As long as you know your login information, your homework can be wherever you are.

One of the joys of taking high school courses online is you are responsible for your own education. Where and how you complete your homework is up to you and because you don’t have a set due date, you don’t have to make up excuses. So before you think up an elaborate scheme as to why you didn’t get your reading done last night, remember that earning your diploma is the ultimate goal. Once you’re a high school graduate, all of the homework will have been worth it.
